Housing Montana Heroes: Clark Fork Inn Project

The Poverello Center’s newest project will offer 16 transitional housing units for veterans experiencing homelessness in Missoula. The project is currently in the works, with funding secured to purchase the property and for construction. Even with multiple channels of support, none of the current funding was allocated to cover much desired solar. Our friends at Climate Ride donated to our Catalyst Fund chipped so we could commission a SOLAR READY design study in early 2026 — now we’re hoping to raise the funds for the actual system!

The Clark Fork Inn apartments are all electric and solar will help ensuring it remains affordable for the nonprofit to own and operate.

Weatherized homes with Front Step

One of Front Step Community Land Trust’s newest co-ops is River Rock, a nine home cul-de-sac in the heart of Missoula. The residents purchased the land and homes in 2024 and operate this cooperatively. Suffice it to say, there was plenty of deferred maintenance from the start.

Early inspections showed that two crawl spaces house the water pumps for the entire River Rock co-op, and these are uninsulated spaces. Electric heaters run in the winter to keep the pump from freezing, and we know this results in an enormous electric bill and tons of wasted energy. Funds are tight with these residents.

Our friends at MMW architects helped us focus in on this needed weatherization repair and Caleb with Approach Design Build is planning to get his crew in their this spring, with plenty of needed insulation.

We look forward to raising more Catalyst Funds to support energy upgrades - for comfort and safety - at River Rock and other Front Step low-income properties.
