Housing Montana Heroes: Clark Fork Inn Project

The Poverello Center’s newest project offers 16 transitional housing units for veterans experiencing homelessness in Missoula. The project just completed construction for the main building and our neighbors will be moving in soon. Even with multiple channels of support, none of the funds raised was allocated to cover much desired solar. Our friends at Climate Ride donated to our Catalyst Fund so we could commission a SOLAR READY design study in early 2026. Now that the building is operational, we’re working to raise the funds for the actual system!

Weatherized homes with Front Step

One of Front Step Community Land Trust’s newest co-ops is River Rock, a nine home cul-de-sac in the heart of Missoula. The residents purchased the land and homes in 2024 and operate this cooperatively. Suffice it to say, there was plenty of deferred maintenance from the start.

Early inspections showed that a crawl space and basement that hold the water pumps for the entire River Rock co-op had uninsulated spaces. Electric heaters have been running every winter to keep the pumps from freezing, and we know this results in enormous electric bills and tons of wasted energy. Funds are tight with these residents.

Our friends at MMW Architects helped us focus in on this needed weatherization repair. In September 2026, Caleb and Rob and their Team with Approach Design Build volunteered a day of labor to clean out the crawl space, add plenty of needed insulation, and build an insulated door. This unglamorous work is going to be such a game changer this winter as both the crawl space and basement mechanical room are ready for the cold!

The Catalyst Funds helped purchase the insulation and other needed building materials (including the much needed porta potty for the crew) and lunch for the Team. We coordinated the effort and are so thrilled we could, collectively, make this happen.

We hope to be able to prioritize more efforts like this with other Front Step low-income properties.
